Pakistan Passport Renewal Abroad — 2026 Guide

Everything you need to know about renewing your Pakistan Machine Readable Passport (MRP) at a Pakistan embassy or high commission overseas.

Key Update for 2026

Pakistan now issues enhanced Machine Readable Passports (MRP) with improved biometric features, polycarbonate data pages, and ICAO 9303-compliant security elements. All new and renewed passports use this format. Old hand-written passports are no longer valid for international travel.

Required Documents

  • Current or expired Pakistan passport (original — you must surrender it)
  • CNIC or NICOP card (original and photocopy)
  • Two recent passport photographs (35x45mm, white background, no glasses, front-facing)
  • Completed passport application form (available at the embassy or downloadable from their website)
  • Proof of residence in your current country (utility bill, bank statement, or residence permit)
  • Fee payment in the accepted format (varies by embassy)
For minors (under 18): Both parents' CNICs/NICOPs, child's B-Form or birth certificate, consent of both parents (or court order if applicable), and the child must be present for biometric capture.

Step-by-Step Renewal Process

1
Gather Your Documents

Collect all required documents listed above. Ensure your photographs meet the specifications (35x45mm, white background, recent within 6 months).

2
Book an Appointment

Most Pakistan missions now require appointments. Check your embassy's website for their booking system (online, phone, or walk-in). Popular missions like London and Dubai book up weeks in advance.

3
Visit the Embassy

Attend in person for biometric capture (fingerprints, digital photograph). Submit your completed application form, documents, old passport, and payment. You will receive an acknowledgement receipt.

4
Wait for Processing

Your application is forwarded to the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports in Islamabad for printing. Standard processing takes 4-6 weeks. Track your application using the receipt number.

5
Collect Your Passport

The embassy will notify you when your new passport is ready. Collect it in person with your acknowledgement receipt and a valid ID. Some missions offer postal delivery for an additional fee.

When to Renew

  • Renew your passport if it expires within 6 months — many countries will not allow entry if your passport has less than 6 months validity remaining
  • Renew if all pages are full (even if the passport has not expired)
  • Renew if the passport is damaged, torn, or water-stained
  • Renew if your name has changed (due to marriage or court order) — bring legal proof of name change
  • Children's passports must be renewed every 5 years and the child must attend in person each time
