Month-by-Month Guide

January & February

Cold in the north (many mountain roads closed by snow). Pleasant in Karachi (20-25°C) and southern Sindh. Good time for Thar Desert. Malam Jabba ski resort open. Budget-friendly as it's low season.

March & April

Cherry blossom season in Hunza and Gilgit-Baltistan. One of the best times to visit northern areas as snow melts and valleys turn pink and white. Spring festivals. Comfortable in Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar (20-28°C). Book northern accommodation early.

May

Getting hot in the plains (35-40°C). Northern areas are perfect — warm days, cool nights. Karakoram Highway fully open. Good for trekking and visiting Deosai Plateau (accessible from late May). Shandur Polo Festival sometimes held in May/June.

June

Very hot in plains (40-45°C). Mountains at their best — clear skies, warm temperatures. Peak trekking season begins. K2 and Concordia treks start. Monsoon arrives in southern areas towards end of month.

July & August

Peak monsoon in Punjab and Sindh — avoid lowland travel. Northern areas are busy but still beautiful. Peak season for K2 base camp treks. Naran-Kaghan and Swat very crowded with domestic tourists. Prices at their highest in north.

September

Monsoon fades. An excellent transition month. Northern areas still accessible, fewer crowds. Cities cooling down. Good time for Lahore and Islamabad cultural tourism. Autumn colours begin in late September.

October & November

Stunning autumn colours in Hunza, Skardu, and Gilgit. Golden poplar and apricot trees against snow-capped peaks. Ideal temperatures across the country (15-28°C). Some high-altitude roads begin closing in late November.

December

Cold throughout. Northern roads closing. Good for city breaks — Lahore's food scene, Karachi coast, Multan's Sufi shrines. Low season prices. Christmas markets in Islamabad (yes, Pakistan has them for the Christian community).

Peak vs Off-Season Pricing

  • Peak season (Jun-Aug, northern areas): Hotel rates 2-3x higher. Book 2-3 months ahead. Flights to Skardu/Gilgit sell out fast.
  • Shoulder season (Mar-May, Sep-Nov): Best value. Good availability. 20-40% cheaper than peak.
  • Off-season (Dec-Feb): Cheapest rates. Many mountain lodges closed. Great deals in cities.
